Support and resistance

Price levels where buying or selling has historically clustered.

What it means

Support is a price level below current price where demand has historically been strong enough to halt declines. Resistance is the opposite: a price level above where supply has historically halted advances. Levels become meaningful when tested multiple times.

Why it matters

S&R levels are self-fulfilling because every market participant watches them. Stop orders cluster just below support; sell orders cluster just below resistance. Whether 'real' or psychological, the price reactions are real.

How to use it

Identify levels using prior swing highs/lows, round numbers, prior all-time highs, and weekly closes. Volume-weighted average price (VWAP) often acts as intraday support/resistance.
