Riksbank

Sweden's central bank. Sets policy rate (repo rate) at 5 meetings per year. Often a first-mover on cycle inflections; pioneered negative rates.

What it means

Sveriges Riksbank is Sweden's central bank — the world's oldest central bank (founded 1668). Sets repo rate at five meetings per year. Famous for being early on cycle inflections: first to cut after 2008 crisis, first to go negative (2015), first to hike post-pandemic (2021). Small open economy means Riksbank reacts to Eurozone dynamics more than global; ECB-Riksbank differentials drive EUR/SEK.

Why it matters

Riksbank policy drives SEK direction. EUR/SEK is one of the most active 'minor' crosses. Riksbank's tendency to be early on cycle inflections sometimes makes it a leading indicator for ECB policy direction.

How to use it

Track 5 Riksbank meetings per year. Watch EUR/SEK against the ECB-Riksbank rate differential. Riksbank-specific data: Swedish CPI, GDP, unemployment claims.
